Open the trunk and locate the BMW battery on the passenger side of the trunk floor. The battery is on the trunk floor if you have a station wagon BMW. Remove the liner to expose the battery. Use a 10mm wrench to disconnect the negative battery terminal. Rest the cable away from the negative battery terminal.

The entire chassis is grounded (except aluminum parts) so you can connect the negative cable to any bolts that are connected to the chassis and aren't painted. I usually use the bolts on the top of the strut tower.

It's a 12V 50Ah AGM battery with PN 61219364597. It is installed if the car has a parking heater. The small lithium batteries in the 3series and X5 are the backup batteries for the SP18 control modules for example when you install remote software updates.
